Who We Are
Children’s Castle Daycare Center is a nonprofit daycare located near the South Keys shopping center. Situated off Hunt Club near Bank Street, our center cares for children ranging in age from 10 months to 6 years. We have been in operation since 1983, and several of our staff have been with us for more than 10 years. Our staff members have successfully completed police record checks and you can read about our staff here. We have recently closed our school aged program to do major renovations and we are hoping we are able to re-open that program in the next year or so.
All of our teachers and supervisors are Registered Early Childhood Educators and our assistants have child-related diplomas and/or significant training and experience with children. CPR, First Aid, and Anaphylaxis training is done on a regular basis. Our dedicated, experienced teachers offer a balanced program that includes age-appropriate activities referring to the ELECT framework, How Does Learning Happen, and using an emergent curriculum. Read more about How Does Learning Happen and ELECT on the Ministry of Education Website. We are using the application HiMama to communicate with the parents and document how we are using How Does Learning Happen.
Our onsite cook is certified by the Ottawa Public Health Department in food handling and preparation. A nutritious lunch and two snacks are provided daily. See an example of our 6 week rotation, vegetarian menu.

During this highly restricted time of COVID-19 we will do our best to meet what is laid out in our program statement. Phase one will be the hardest, we predict for us to do this. Each child will have their own area in the classroom, where the goal is, that they and staff are the only one to enter this area. In this area they will be given approved supplies and activities. These will be added to and removed from as restrictions are lifted and if/when a possible or confirmed case of COVID-19 or any other outbreak is in the building. We are currently following the guidelines set out for us by the Ministry of Education, Province and Ottawa Public Health. As they update us we will continue to follow and adjust our classroom activities as they see fit.
Although we will not be coming together to do a circle, sing songs or do science experiments we will do our best to have a social distancing story time and continue to encourage the children to interact with each other from their areas in the classroom.
